MUSICAL STORY
WITH ORCHESTRA

The tradition of musical storytelling dates back hundreds of years and continues to this day. It is a story told by two voices: the narrator using words, and the orchestra using music.

Both stories and music have the power to connect human beings emotionally, and together the effect is multiplied. This alliance allows the audience to inhabit the images of the story, to give them substance.

Sometimes, an orchestra seeks to tell the story of the opera or theatrical music it is performing. At other times, music helps illustrate a traditional story, and thus a creative musical tale is born.

It is an original way to introduce unknown musical works or to enhance stories through music.

PETER AND THE WOLF

With the Orchestre de la Suisse Romande

Peter lives in the countryside with his grandfather. One day, he goes to play near the pond, where he sees a bird, a duck, and a cat. The bird flies quickly in all directions. The duck swims in the pond, out of reach of the prowling cat. Peter's grandfather finds him and scolds him: the boy should not be wandering alone in the woods and must return home.

As soon as Peter and his grandfather leave, a wolf emerges from the woods, catches the duck, and eats it. Peter, who is watching the scene from the house, sneaks out and devises a very clever way to capture the wolf. The hunters who have been tracking the wolf arrive. Peter convinces them not to kill the animal, but to take it to the zoo.

THE EXTRAORDINARY JOURNEY OF PEER GYNT

With the OLG Lancy-Geneva Orchestra conducted by Roberto Sawicki

The story is that of Peer Gynt, a young Norwegian peasant, a braggart and teller of tall tales, who travels through fjords, mountains, deserts, and oceans, and only at the end of his journey, in the twilight of his life, does he realize that true happiness was within his reach, but he failed to see it.

The story, rewritten and narrated by Casilda Regueiro, is accompanied and illustrated by musical interludes. The Lancy-Geneva Orchestra, under the artistic and musical direction of Roberto Sawicki, performs some of the most famous themes from this stage score in a more intimate version for strings.

THE MYSTERIES OF THE ALHAMBRA

With the OLG Lancy-Geneva Orchestra conducted by Roberto Sawicki

Prince Ahmed is locked away in a tower by his father, the king, who fears the dire predictions of astrologers. The prince lives in isolation in the Alhambra palace in Granada.

Devoted to his studies under the tutelage of a strict teacher, he must under no circumstances hear of love. He learns the language of birds, which reveal to him the existence of a beautiful and mysterious Spanish princess. Crossing the barriers between the Hispanic and Muslim worlds in the name of love, nothing and no one can prevent him from being with the love of his life, not the birds of ill omen, nor the enchanted horse, nor the armed knights. Love, tolerance, and respect for differences will triumph over all obstacles.

Casilda and the musicians of the Lancy-Geneva Orchestra, conducted by Roberto Sawicki, will transport you to the magical kingdom of Al-Andalus on the Iberian Peninsula to the joyful rhythm of the fandango and the jota.

Halef, le vendeur d’eau

Accompanied by the Terpsycordes Quartet, Xavier Dami on piano and Damien Bachman on clarinet

A little boy is bored to death despite having a room full of toys. He asks his mother to tell him a story. His mother makes him a proposal: ‘You play, and I'll make up a story based on the toy you choose and what you do with it. Agreed?’ Thus begins a magnificent journey in which mother and son, music and storytelling come together to create wonderful images. Each new toy is illustrated by music and inspires a story as beautiful as it is surprising, evoking the atmosphere of One Thousand and One Nights.

BABA YAGA
